Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. They can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, blood pressure checks and dressings. The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes, minor ailment clinics and carry out cervical smears.

Mental health practitioners provide wellbeing-focused, psychologically informed interventions and coordinate care plans for individuals mental health problems.  These practitioners are an asset to general practice, helping patients to access support in a timely manner.

We now have a social worker within the Practice.  The social worker can help with a wide range of topics, such as lifestyle matters, carer support, safeguarding, physical and mental health, behavioural issues and much more.

We now have two First Contact Physiotherapists within the surgery. First Contact Physiotherapists have enhanced skills and they can help patients with musculoskeletal issues such as back, neck and joint pain by:

• assessing and diagnosing issues
• giving expert advice on how best to manage their conditions
• referring them onto specialist services if necessary.

Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.

The practice manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.

The pharmacists regularly deal with repeat prescription requests, hospital letters and medication queries from other healthcare workers and patients. Our pharmacists are prescribers and can run blood pressure clinics, contraception clinics and anticoagulation reviews, and have also been helping us in our vaccination campaigns. They ensure that medications are prescribed safely and cost effectively, ensuring that high quality standards are achieved

The midwifery team look after women during and after pregnancy and can be accessed on a Friday morning by appointment.

The nurses visit the homes of patients who are housebound. Some examples of their work are taking bloods, dressing wounds / ulcers, assessing patients needs (e.g. equipment or extra care needed) and they are invaluable in the care of people with a terminal illness.

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.
